Automatic Driving Lesson

One-on-one lesson in a dual-control automatic car. For complete beginners and for learners getting ready for the driving test. Lessons in English, Arabic or Ezidi.

Every lesson is one-on-one, in an automatic car fitted with dual controls. There is a second set of pedals on my side, so I can help if something goes wrong. This makes the car safe for a first lesson, even if you have never driven before.

I work at your pace. Some learners need more time behind the wheel. Others need more explaining first. I adjust my way of teaching based on your needs.

What happens in a lesson

I pick you up from home, school or work. We start the lesson from there, so you don't waste time getting to me.

In the first lesson we begin on quiet streets. You will learn the seat, the mirrors, the pedals and the steering before we go anywhere. After that, each lesson builds on the last one:

  • Roundabouts, traffic lights and lane changing

  • Parking, reversing and three-point turns

  • Faster roads and highway driving

  • Road rules and road signs as we come across them

I explain the road rules while we drive. When we pass a sign or a line marking that learners often get wrong, I stop and explain it. This is part of every lesson and there is no extra charge for it.

If you have never driven before

This is normal. Most people book their first lesson with no experience at all. You do not need to practise with a parent first. Bring your learner licence and I will take care of the rest.

If your driving test is coming up

I will drive the roads around the test centre with you and show you where learners lose marks. We can also do a practice test, where I sit quietly and mark the drive the way an examiner would, then go through it with you afterwards.

Log book hours in NSW

If you are under 25, a lesson with a licensed driving instructor counts as three hours in your log book. One hour with me is recorded as three. This applies to your first ten lessons.

One thing to be careful about. If the lesson is at night, only the real hour counts towards your 20 night hours. The two bonus hours are recorded as day hours. You cannot use lessons to finish your night driving faster.

The full rules are on the Transport for NSW learner drivers page.

What's included

  • Dual-control automatic car

There is a second set of pedals on my side. I can slow the car down or stop it if I need to, so the car is safe from your first lesson.
  • Pick-up and drop-off

I pick you up from home, school or work, and drop you back at the end of the lesson.
  • English, Arabic or Ezidi

The lesson runs in the language you are most comfortable with. I can also explain your progress to your parents in their own language.
  • Road rules and signs

I explain the rules and the signs while we drive, so you learn them in the place you will use them.
